Blog 12 - Online Videos

Online videos :
I enjoyed watching the Curtin Video and thought it was very interesting as it is nice to here what is going on from my universitys point of view.

Our libraries can do some different things to! this may sound original but what if we had the oppurtunity to use online videos to capture our storytime moments, or the wonderful activities that cockburn libraries have. People could use and share videos online only as a memeber of our libaries so if children cannot attend, or cannot be there at the point in time they havent missed out.

We could use online videos to post on our websites to promote activities in the library. I watched a really cute video of a young girl expressing her need for more technological advances in libraries. Seeing as things are all online, we could a page for kids only, with videos, stories, games all to do with favourite authors and kids dvds being able to be shared and accessed online.

Videos could be used to have the point of view of the staff being documented as  way of interacting with staff memebers and the public. We could go around and interview people in the library on the spot and ask them perhaps what it means to them to be a member of our library? this would help marketing our library and making it and even better place to apart of.

Also as iphone are so popular and yes children at the age of 3 should not have one! i think creating an application would be a good idea, you check the latest events, books, activities for children as well as your closest library location, contact details and maps!

Enjoy!

This video is adroable and it made think how technology can be so influential for children even at the age of 3!

Blog 11 facebook and twitter 2

Facebook:
Well, i have finally become friends with Midland swan and sent them a message and posted on their wall. It is nice to see good communication between libraries and their staff across W.A.
I think this is why facebook can be so benefical for organisations especially for us as a local library.

Facebook is relatively easy to use alhthough as it changes all the time it can get confusing, and the chat is efficent enough as it  always shuts down.

I do think it is not appropiate to be used  for work purposes. However their can be a personal profile a user may have and a business profile. It is good for advertising, promoting and updating events and new things that happen in our local library. I think cockburn does a great job with their page as i am constantly getting updates about what is happenin/ happens in cockburn libraries.

Twitter:

I am a new user to twitter and have tweeted 3 times, i do not have much to say but i am excited for xmas and new years as i will be away for a while in the coming new year. Twitter is extemely different to facebook and i enjoy facebook better. it gives a chance to be more communicative , fun, funny as well as being able to relate to other people and groups.

I am following a range of things like lady gaga and vogue and swan libraries. I also have 4 followers which i was happy about being so new to twitter.

Twitter is good for fast and interesting news now! it is good for current events and when something you want to share with the world straight away i think twitter is more better to use rather than facebook.

I do think it can get a bit ridiculous with what people tweet however i think the same with what people post with facebook, it goes either way.

Well only a few more tweets to go, but i think i will stick to facebook!

Blog 10- facebook and twitter

Social media to me is now second nature. In my generation we have grown up with the technology and the advancements of facebook and twitter. This was a fun exercise to complete because i actually new how to do  most of it!

I already have facebook and i am addicted to it ! Im on it all the time but do not post much but it is a good way of keeping in touch with old friends, family overseas and events and the gossip from the weekend adventures!

For the first time i created a  twitter account I dont really like twitter as I think facebook allows a better interaction with people, family and friends and socially connects you with people from all over!

I am currently following 10 people/things on twitter such as lady gaga, 7pm project, rove, dave hughes (he is a legend) , swan libraries of course and vogue and so on!

this is my first tweet and there will be more coming so as i tweet i will add more blogs!

my tweet name is cjlp1991

blog 9- Librarything!

Library thing- is a good way to tell me I should make time to read more books!

I placed 5 on the my account as requested!

This is a good way for people to communicate with one another about different books, this would encourage people to talk about their thoughts, experiences and what reading can do for individuals.

Blog 8 - Delicious

Part 1 - Bookmarking

Bookmarking was a very interesting part to learn about in web 2.0.

it was easy to create and i think it will help in researching assistance. However i think it makes a job a lot simpler and to be able to have all your tools in one area to access. I wish i had known about this when i was doing my assignments!

It will help those when serving people, you may need to help find books or research items for a customer/borrower and have so many things open, by bookmarking it is easier to have everything in one place.

I havent added many bookmarks but i bookmarked the west Australian as i always like to know what is going in the media!

Blog 7 - My attempt at wikis

WIKI'S:

I Firstly somehow created my own wiki's page, i most likely will not get to finishing it but i set it up.
I thought this was really cool and i think it would actually be good for businesses , customers, libraries and anyone really who wants to express their opinions, beliefs and foundings about any particular products.

I thought about what to make mine about on the spot, i chose the iphone! Im addicted to my iphone it comes everywhere with me and makes my life very easy when i need directions, banking or google or facebook!

this is a link to my iphone lovers page!

Well i secondly posted something on the W.A libraries 2.0 basics link.

This is what i posted:

Why do you work in your library?

Working in a library is very different to what i used to work in. I joined my local library as an casual officer in June 2010. I chose to work in a library because it is different, more fulfilling and i can help other people with things like technology, learning new programs and learning a whole new world of what happens behind the scenes in a library. I get to work in two different libraries and i enjoy both of them although sometimes it can get busy, it is a profession that can be fulfilling and satisfying for an individual.

What is the best thing about your role in the library?

My role in the library is simple to help people on the desk and be a shelver. I enjoy helping people when im on the desk as they ask me questions about computers, finding books and various information. When I have helped someone fulfill their needs it makes me very happy that my knowledge can be put to good use.

What area of the job is completely different from you expected it to be?

at the beginning I thought it would be completely different for example being really hard and difficult and completely different to what I was used to. However it can be diffcult at times when dealing with borrowers that like to be difficult but that is apart of any job when dealing with different publics.

Blog 6- wiki's!

Wikis....

Learning about Wikis was interesting as I dont know too much about them. This new techology has allowed us to provide each other as human beings with information, knowledge and facts as well as a normal human being  rather than a fancy academic to put information on the net.

Wikis can allow us to have various information, it also helps libraries like our selves limit our information  to what we would like to publish, keep and deliver.

When watching the video about wikipedia, Uni and high school teachers and lectures always told us to not use wikipedia because it is not a relible source! However if i didn't understand something I would always use wikipedia as a reference for my self. As a univerisity student wikipedia is like an electronic assignment that constantly needs referencing and may i say referencing is so annoying and time consuming!

a major issue that i found with Wikipedia is that Published opinions are important however some issues can be bias and declines the purpose of having a neutral communication like what wikipedia aims to do!

As for libraries... I think  having a wiki's page for where internal staff can place new events, updates and profiles about library services and information that different individuals are not neccessarily aware of.
People internally can edit, post new things about what they are doing as there everyday jobs that hehlps the functions of a library.

Interesting Statistic :

Australian Bureau of Statistics embraces world of blogs and wikis: (the australian article)

Although purely internal, about 30 per cent of its 3000-odd employees have started creating their own wikis and blog pages on the ABS's intranet.

blog 4 - RSS feeds

Hello!

it has been a very long time since i have blogged! I have been too busy with exams and all! but they are all over now!!!

Well RSS Feeds ....

1.) I think RSS feeds are really good to have, they are what you want to know and easy to access at all times. This helps in keeping up to date with current news, world politics, library interests as well as anything you desire.

2.) I selected yahoo, world news, netvibes, google news, libraries interactive , the west Australian and unshelved comics!

3.) I would use it so that I can have all the latest updates for uni assignments such as keeping up with media and events. I would also use it to keep intouch with other peoples blogs.

4.) I think libraries can take advantage of this technology for borrowers to be able to communicate with other people within their communities and their own library.
