FINAL BLOG! :)

This is my final post!

I have completed the course and have really enjoyed it! Some of the things of the course i already, some i did not know about and learnt completely new things that i have never heard of before. I enjoyed the each week as we did something different.

I feel better informed that i now have more experience and knowledge in different areas of technology. We live in a world that technology changes so quickly and in the past decade dramatically changed the way we live, work and go about our daily tasks.

i think the library can use blogs, geocaching, podcasts , librarything , wiki's etc pretty much almost everything we have learnt to help engage the public, attract new memebers and involve staff in order to have a line between collegues and also to have fun at work!

the thing that was annoying the most about the weblearning 2.0 was the keeping up each week and falling behind sometimes. Also commenting on five blogs etc was a little challenging because sometimes you just do not get time!

The course has been fun, i have enjoyed and it has taught me things i will use throughout my uni degree, my career and to teach others.

Thanks to Lawley for keeping us on track throughout the course and helping us when we got stuck!

Thats a wrap!! :)

Geocaching Week 10!

Woohoo!! Last week is complete! :)

well geocaching is something that i did not know anything about until web learning 2.0!

I think that geocaching would be a great way for kids to get involved and learn about their local areas for example for us within the city of cockburn. Perhaps targetting areas that have a lot of history, landmarks and how they became apart of our community.

I think it would be a good idea for staff to work together and place geocaches around our local communities and in the other areas of our libraries such as Coo and Sus areas. it would help strengthen relationships between staff, require teamwork.

the caches can include different includes as well as their normal requirements. There are few different caches such as the traditional cache which has a container and a log book, or a multi cache which includes a two or more locations.

i found two geocaches close to my suburb for example one in south fremantle which is about 10 mins away Called EVANS ABOVE and another one in munster which is about 2 mins away. These were found through the geocaching website Australia.

Blog 10 Podcasting!

Podcasting...

It has only been recently that i learnt about podcasts!
Podcasts are a good way to be in touch and keep up with events, lectures and talks that can occur at one although cannot be atteneed by all.

Curtin has podcasts in which your able to download your lectures at any given time and be able to listen to them on your iphone or ipod.

Well done for city of cockburn to have their first podcast! I think it will be very useful for them as there is always events happening within the library and our community and will give the public opportunities to be up to date with what is happening in our local community.

We as the city of cockburn have not used podcasts at all ! so its time to start! We can podcasts events or talks by authors, book clubs (for those that cannot attend) as well as any events that occur can be recorded and still put online for all to view!

My favourite podcasts include Hamish and Andy, and good news week!
I downloaded mine from itunes and these particular ones were free. I downloaded them onto my ipod and now i can watch them at any time and anywhere!

I know that this semester for uni i will be downloading more podcasts for my lectures!

:) next week geocaching!! yay! last week!

Blog 12 - Online Videos

Online videos :
I enjoyed watching the Curtin Video and thought it was very interesting as it is nice to here what is going on from my universitys point of view.

Our libraries can do some different things to! this may sound original but what if we had the oppurtunity to use online videos to capture our storytime moments, or the wonderful activities that cockburn libraries have. People could use and share videos online only as a memeber of our libaries so if children cannot attend, or cannot be there at the point in time they havent missed out.

We could use online videos to post on our websites to promote activities in the library. I watched a really cute video of a young girl expressing her need for more technological advances in libraries. Seeing as things are all online, we could a page for kids only, with videos, stories, games all to do with favourite authors and kids dvds being able to be shared and accessed online.

Videos could be used to have the point of view of the staff being documented as  way of interacting with staff memebers and the public. We could go around and interview people in the library on the spot and ask them perhaps what it means to them to be a member of our library? this would help marketing our library and making it and even better place to apart of.

Also as iphone are so popular and yes children at the age of 3 should not have one! i think creating an application would be a good idea, you check the latest events, books, activities for children as well as your closest library location, contact details and maps!

Enjoy!

This video is adroable and it made think how technology can be so influential for children even at the age of 3!

Blog 11 facebook and twitter 2

Facebook:
Well, i have finally become friends with Midland swan and sent them a message and posted on their wall. It is nice to see good communication between libraries and their staff across W.A.
I think this is why facebook can be so benefical for organisations especially for us as a local library.

Facebook is relatively easy to use alhthough as it changes all the time it can get confusing, and the chat is efficent enough as it  always shuts down.

I do think it is not appropiate to be used  for work purposes. However their can be a personal profile a user may have and a business profile. It is good for advertising, promoting and updating events and new things that happen in our local library. I think cockburn does a great job with their page as i am constantly getting updates about what is happenin/ happens in cockburn libraries.

Twitter:

I am a new user to twitter and have tweeted 3 times, i do not have much to say but i am excited for xmas and new years as i will be away for a while in the coming new year. Twitter is extemely different to facebook and i enjoy facebook better. it gives a chance to be more communicative , fun, funny as well as being able to relate to other people and groups.

I am following a range of things like lady gaga and vogue and swan libraries. I also have 4 followers which i was happy about being so new to twitter.

Twitter is good for fast and interesting news now! it is good for current events and when something you want to share with the world straight away i think twitter is more better to use rather than facebook.

I do think it can get a bit ridiculous with what people tweet however i think the same with what people post with facebook, it goes either way.

Well only a few more tweets to go, but i think i will stick to facebook!

Blog 10- facebook and twitter

Social media to me is now second nature. In my generation we have grown up with the technology and the advancements of facebook and twitter. This was a fun exercise to complete because i actually new how to do  most of it!

I already have facebook and i am addicted to it ! Im on it all the time but do not post much but it is a good way of keeping in touch with old friends, family overseas and events and the gossip from the weekend adventures!

For the first time i created a  twitter account I dont really like twitter as I think facebook allows a better interaction with people, family and friends and socially connects you with people from all over!

I am currently following 10 people/things on twitter such as lady gaga, 7pm project, rove, dave hughes (he is a legend) , swan libraries of course and vogue and so on!

this is my first tweet and there will be more coming so as i tweet i will add more blogs!

my tweet name is cjlp1991

blog 9- Librarything!

Library thing- is a good way to tell me I should make time to read more books!

I placed 5 on the my account as requested!

This is a good way for people to communicate with one another about different books, this would encourage people to talk about their thoughts, experiences and what reading can do for individuals.
